Becca Rowland is an artist and writer from Nova Scotia, Canada, whose fascination with birds began with their mum’s love of them. Having traveled to all seven continents and lived on four, Becca draws inspiration from the incredible diversity of birds she’s encountered around the world.
Recognizing how hard it is to describe bird sounds in words, Becca created audio mnemonics, which is pairing bird calls with familiar, non-bird noises, to help people recognize and learn them more easily.
These playful and practical comparisons became short videos on social media and eventually the book Bird Talk, published by Storey Publishing, which is hoped to make bird identification fun, silly, and useful.
